Check the Computer

This cannot diagnose the machine, but it can put cleanup, an SSD, backup, and replacement in a more sensible order.

How old is the computer?
What kind of storage drive does it have?If you do not know, choose Unknown. This is one of the first things I check.
What best describes the problem?
Is it running Windows 10?
Are the important files backed up?A backup is more important than cleanup when a drive may be failing.

    Common Computer Questions

Can an old computer still be worth repairing?

Yes, when the computer is otherwise dependable and the problem is isolated. An SSD upgrade, careful cleanup, more memory, or a specific repair may cost less than replacing a computer and moving everything.

How does an SSD change the decision?

A mechanical hard drive can make an otherwise usable computer feel extremely slow. If the drive is healthy enough to migrate and the rest of the computer is suitable, an SSD can improve startup and file access dramatically.

    Does Windows 10 still work?

Windows 10 still runs, but Microsoft ended normal support on October 14, 2025. Check Windows 11 eligibility or Extended Security Updates instead of ignoring the security decision.

Should I run a cleaner program first?

Not automatically. Some cleaner programs report inflated error counts or remove items that are unrelated to the real slowdown. Check storage, startup programs, updates, browser behavior, and drive health first.

What should I save before replacement?

Documents, photos, desktop files, downloads, browser favorites, email archives, software license details, and anything stored outside the usual folders should be reviewed before the old computer is erased or recycled.
